  • Materials Rapeseeds ( Alizze) were purchased from a seed producer. The used seeds are food grade as they do not contain euricic acid and have a low glucosinolate content (13 mg/100 g). Their composition is: 9.0% ± 1.2 moisture, 36.0 wt % ± 1.3 of oil and 18.0 wt % ± 0.7 of protein in wet basis.
  • Why does a press cake have a low oil yield?
  • However, the oil yield is overall lower, due to a significant amount of fat retained in the press cake (10 - 12 %). Heating up the seeds before pressing (e.g. in stack heaters) considerably increases the yield, at the cost of lower oil quality. Extrusion–pressing can lead to high oil yields.
